LED light reactive music box with different LEDs reacting different channels : R/L, Mid and Bass in any song. HELP.

I'm a Business student with no knowledge in electronics just an idea how to deal with some things. I've been doing some research at instructables and I was really amazed by the creativity of the Music reactive LED box project. As I did my research I found more ways to make it better. I decided to make one myself by starting small but I got stuck. I found ways to make LEDs react to Left and Right pitches by one set attached to L and the other set to R and I myslef came to a conclusion of making it react to mids aswell by wiring the L/R to together to another set of LEDs. For the Bass I looked up at many places but all I found were some unexplained methods in the comments section.
At first I read that the bass can be filtered using a 'Bandpass filter' by filtering the high-pitch sounds and letting the low pitch sounds pass. I followed up to many links and I found out that can be done by adding capacitors, The biggest capacitor wired to the smallest resistor and vice versa. I did find a 'Bass' filter method using resistors and capacitors here (https://www.instructables.com/files/deriv/FQA/OLH1/GMYNAXQJ/FQAOLH1GMYNAXQJ.MEDIUM.jpg) but I can't make any sense out of it. The other very simple method I found for flashing LEDs to music was to use a small mini computer called an 'Arduino'. It connects to your computer through a USB which I didn't like at all as it is being limited to be of use with just computers and cannot be used with other handheld devices. This device can be programmed in a way to pass current in a way by flashing the LED designated to a particular pitch in a song.
What I prefer is the more creative method by wiring it all up and connecting it to a 3.5mm jack so that I can connect it to any device I want. One more thing I read somewhere that to allow the Bass using a Band filter you need to set it up allowing 100Hz of freq and for some people who want to separate treble aswell that goes for 3kHz. I didn't get most of it but I'll be really grateful if someone with better experience can help me out and make the instructions really simple  :)

thanks a ton making me possible to get atleast the mid filter working by right+left

i too have figured that making capacitors three filter can be processed mid - low and high but havnt ttried since dont knw the exact values and connections till nw only with left right and mid :)

if u got hw to make it work with capacitors plz enlighten me 2
and lastly how to make them dim slowly if u can in simple lingo in which non electrical person can understand since what i have seen is all technical and symbols for me its lk ancient cryptic lingo :)
