Laptop Volume Problems?

When I play music, or anything for that matter on my laptop, it sounds low-quality, scratchy, and shifts around until it gets to a certain point, at which point the audio sounds normal. This happens with the built-in speakers as well as with headphones. What do I do?

Are you using Windows 7???

If so, there is an annoying "feature" with Windows 7 that causes this, and its intended to reduce volume when any communication activity is detected.

To disable that, go to "Start" and open your "Control Panel". Click on "Sound" and then the "Communications" tab. Select the "Do Nothing" radio button and then click "Ok" to save the change, then close the control panel.

That should take care of it. If you're not using Windows 7, you'll need to reply with a bit more information about your laptop and OS.
Were you able to solve your laptop volume problem? (You didn't reply).

Go into the device manager and uninstall all the sound card drivers then restart the system. When it restarts It will find the hardware and reinstall the drivers. This often (but not always) fixes problems like this. If this doesn't work then go to the manufacturer's web site and download the latest drivers for the sound system. If that still doesn't fix it then there are other options but do this first.
