Laptop says missing operating system?
I do not have a recovery disk it is windows XP home is there a way to get a recovery disk off the internet for free? anything is appreciated

possibility that you can recover data by yourself
If the hard drive is not showing up in the Bios , then the drive is most likely
bad and you would have to send it away to a company that specializes in getting data from dead drives.
There's also the possibility that it might be some kind of flakey BIOS problem,
so it wouldn't hurt to try restoring the BIOS defaults, or flashing the BIOS.
Then the drive might show up again.
You might also want to try getting an IDE to USB adapter . That will allow you to take the drive out of the laptop and connect it to another computer's usb port.
If the drive is good it will show on the other computer and you can run a disk check
and recover data too.
I would try Ubuntu or Puppy linux live CD's and boot from the CD drive to see if the hard disk is readable.
