PC Fan help?

Hi!

Got a Dell 8600 Inspiron
When I boot, the fan briefly turns twice. Begins to start, but stops abruptly. Doesn't do anything else. I think the fan needs to be replaced, but if it is faulty, why is it able to start briefly?

I noticed this b/c it was getting very hot and I noticed a very very very faint beeping sound coming from around the area of the fan. Random beeping, no pattern to it.

Any advice/suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

sounds like the fan has given up - sometimes they respond to a drop or two of oil on the bearings.

Just check the BIOS settings around the fan - it's possible that some smart fan control has been set wrong such that it's not spinning until the thing gets past XXoC.

Try replacing it then?

Sounds like a dead fan - or worse, a fan controller. I'd look for a replacement.
