Position of ruler?

Hi, I love this class so far. I have one suggestion. A long time ago as an apprentice in an art studio I was frequently charged with framing art and trimming illustrations. One thing I learned was always place your straight edge between your blade and the important art. The same idea could be applied to cutting the leather. Place your ruler or straightedge protecting the parts you are cutting out. That way if your knife slips you wont ruin the piece.

That is definitely a good call! Sometimes I like to be able to see the full outline of what I'm cutting, and the ruler can obstruct that if you put it over the "art", but it most circumstances, I think you are absolutely right. It's just a bad habit of mine to do it the other way ;)
