Rebroadcasting wifi from my laptop?

I don’t always have the wifi connected in my house, and can pick up another network on my laptop. The problem is that my ipad can’t pick it up, and sometimes I need to use that. I need a way to be able to rebroadcast the wifi that I pick up on my laptop so that my ipod could pick it up. I would like a fair range so I could have my laptop running and I can walk around my house with my ipod. I was also wondering if there was a way to hook up to a password protected network (Mine, of course) and rebroadcast it without a password, or one that I choose so that friends could use it but not have the main wifi password. Any help is appreciated.

I found a program called connectify, it works great!
If the issue with the iPod is just that the signal is not strong enough, consider making a repeater:

For the other thing, it'll depend on your router setup. Some newer devices have "guest networking" as a feature. That will give your guests access to the internet, but not the other devices or your network (or whichever devices you allow). If your router doesn't support this already, you might need to look into setting up a VLAN, and then allowing that VLAN restricted access to your network. Good instructions for doing this are all over the web, so I won't repeat them here.
whoops. typo. That should read "...but not the other devices on your network...."

You can't "rebroadcast" without another set of network hardware -- another wireless access point, or another network adapter in your machine and the bridge-the-networks setting turned on.

Similarly, the only way I know to have both protected and unprotected nets is two wireless access points. Which I may do at some point; I have a spare router.
