Running a 6v toy r/c car on 9 volts?

I have a toy r/c car that I've done some experiments on, and I was wondering if there was a way to upgrade it to 9 volts, and if that would make it faster? I've already tried using a single 9v battery, but that either messed something up, or killed the battery really fast. So I'm back to running it on 4 AA's, but I found a 6 AA holder, and I was wondering if using 6 AA's to get 9v works better than just a 9v battery.

I wouldn't worry too much about the motor, what I'd be worried more about is running the radio on 9 volts.
Yeah, the motor should be able to handle it.  It's the gearbox and radio that I'd be worried about.

As for the 9V battery, you probably just drained it really fast.  It's got a capacity of maybe 600-700mAh, compared to 2500mAh for a AA battery.

 Is it possible to upgrade the radio? Or is that the little IC I can see on the board?

That's probably the meat of it.  The problem is that it may not be happy running at 9 volts.  If you can read the part number, you could look up the datasheet and see if it will operate on 9V.

Running the toy car on 9 volts rather than 6 volts will most likely burn the motor out much quicker than it would have with the 6 volts that the motor is most likely rated for. I would either purchase a motor rated for 9 volts or keep the current configuration with the 6 volts.
 Aye, I would think so too, but I'm waiting on some battery holders in the mail, I have an Air Rebound I plan to attach 2x 4AA holders to, and wire them in parallel with the main battery to get some longer run time.

If you don't run it for too long you'll be OK. Long & hard running will cause the motor to overheat, the insulation will burn, smoke will be produced, short-circuiting will probably occur and it'll probably "die".
The radio, I don't know, but I think it'll probably survive as a low-power device.
