Slicer: setting local parameters?

Hi all,

I am using CURA as a slicer and not the current version so my question might sound strange.

I would like to know if it exists a slicer that allows local parameters vs global parameters for the 3D printing.

I have a structure which I want 3D print with a thread. Today the solution I use to have enough material to actually make the thread is to set the "shell thickness" at a high value (let's say 3mm). It means that the overall thickness of the shell will be 3mm, no matter where I am on my part. But, to save time and PLA, I would like to have a shell thickness of, let's say, 1mm everywhere but 3mm where I have to do my thread.

If not clear let me know because I realize it is kind of difficult to explain for me (I am not english native ;-)

As far as I know, there's no way to vary shell thickness in a single model using the parameters in a slicer. To do that, you would probably need to get into the code itself and change the parameters there.

I wouldn't bother with that though, the best way to create this kind of form is just to design the walls yourself in Fusion. You can make your object in multiple parts and then fit them together (the process described in the Bike Fender lessons in the class). You'll also save a lot of material this way, most likely.

Feel free to post another question with a picture of the thing you're trying to design, I might be of help.

Hi Jon, Hi all

Thx for your answer. I will try to design it within Fusion (I used TinkerCAD so far) and do as you suggest.

can find the project I am talking about HERE. It is one of my last I'ble. Working well for weeks
now, but after a new printing with different shell thickness, I discovered a weakness: there is a breaking possibility when
screwing the mount on the tripod if shell is too thin. Thus I would like
to improve that. I am planning also to improve it by adding some more features (led lights...).Ready to take great ideas ;-)

I will keep you posted and let you know about it. thx again for your help
