Start reading books on electronics, circuits, and arduino robotics. But thats the boring way if you want to do what I did is simply jump into the most complicated circuits and robots start building it rather than understanding it and when you would have completed building something then start your research on how it works. Hope this helps.
Look into Arduino. There are Arduino based robotic kits that are great options for getting started.
