What are some good tools to have?

I have a drill (2 actually), a dremel, and a hand-held sander. I also have as many wrenches and screwdrivers and hammers (the smaller things) as I need. I have $40 dollars in a giftcard to Home Depot. What tools would be good to have? Look at my instructables if you need to figure out what i would use them for.

You can get a decent multi-tool if don't have one already. It's always a nice to have one on you when you need it and are away from home/shop. But as others have suggested you might look more for "general" bits and pieces that you use on projects. Like duck tape, glues, zip ties, electronic parts, solder and a gun and other stuff that you go thru that needs replaced after you use them up.
The tool I use more than any other is my Swiss Army knife, I probably need it half a dozen times every day. It's a Victorinox Spirit, most people call it a Leatherman, but I like it a lot more than my old Wave. I'm not sure if Home Depot sells them, or if you can find one for only $40, but whatever you do, don't get a cheap knock-off (have you seen the movie 127 hours?).
Other than that, FoolishSage is right, you can never have enough clamps!

Why don't you use your $40 and buy an accessory kit (or two) for your Dremel Tool?

There are many kits that you should find useful. I'm sure that a few more cutting, shaping, sanding and polishing heads would come in handy. (They do wear out).

my dremel isnt the best, and my dad (yes i am young) has many dremel bits
Well... you've pretty much shot down all the suggestions everyone has given, so I would just recommend that you go to the Home Depot and browse like a "kid in a candy store". (no pun intended).

You might just find something useful that you didn't know you needed.

Or, you could look down an entirely different department, like plumbing or electrical and pickup some parts for your next big Instructable.
You could also just pick up a whole bunch of useful little things that Home Depot sells, like batteries, zip ties, wire, shrink tube, tape, glue, bulbs, and any other stuff you might need for your next instructables project.

And if you're really stumped, send me the card... I'll find something to buy :D

You dont seem to mention cutting tools. Depending on the materials you want to work this can be tinsnips, nibblers, handsaws, jigsaws, boxsaws, xacto knives, etc. 40 dollars wont go a long way if you want to buy a circular saw or a sawzall but the others I listed should be within budget.

Other than that you can never have too many clamps..

i do have multiple hacksaws, a handsaw, and a sawzall'
it seems you have your bases covered. Beyond these it really depends on what kind of projects you want to do and what you feel is missing to make them easier. Maybe some kind of pipe bender, soldering station or glass cutter.. I would go with Burf's suggestion: walk around the shop and see what pulls your fancy

What about consumables? Nobody considers the stuff you need to make your instructables/projects happen. Sandpaper, tape, glue, paint, wire, solder, nails, screws, nuts, bolts, brackets, sealant, and a thousand other things that you will see browsing hardware stores.

Unfortunately, $40 won't go far towards the purchase of new tools. So I would recommend a set of insulated miniature pliers, (needle nose, wire cutters, etc.) and a drill/driver bit with an assortment of bits. Those two items will pretty much exhaust your gift card but they are handy, worthwhile additions to any tool kit.

already have all of these....

but they are no longer shiny and new

Apparently, no one is going be able to correctly guess what you need/want. Therefore, I suggest you take your $40 gift card to a Home Depot and wander around in the tool department and see if you can find something that strikes your fancy.
