My rr spike 'knife" ended up about 2.5-3 feet long. It's rusting in the back yard somewhere ; (

There's these... http://www.indianablacksmithing.org/gallery/railroadspikes.jpg

you could make a tomohawk

A tomahawk (2sides1 edge 1 spike)
an axe (1 side one edge)
various chisels
a small window break hammer in case you drive into a lake and need to break a window.
(I made these and will post instructables for these soon.)
they are cheap I got a box of 40 -6.5 in ones for about 23$ with shipping.
I still have many projects I am in the process of making will post soon.

best railroad spikes are of a high carbon content you will usually get a bright orange spark when grinding these

There's an Instructable that shows how to make a weapon out of a rail road spike which involves attaching it to a string... quite deadly.

Found it, here.

Blacksmith's rose? If you've got a forge, the real answer is "Anything which requires that much metal or less. Preferably something of similar overall shape so you don't spend too much time and effort on the basics."
