What does this output mean?

What does it mean when it says "led was not declared in this scope"?

It means you forgot to declare the variable called "led" at the beginning -- make sure you're copying the entire code, and if you change any variable names, change them in every place they occur.

The Arduino Mega 2560 I ordered online finally arrived. All exercises in lesson 2 went without a hitch.

One observation is that the variables can be declared "globally", that is before setup() and before loop().

Another observation is that I'm going to need a USB on/off switch (if such a thing exists).

Glad to hear it! Let me know if you run into any pin number conversion snags. We're also trying out office hours over video chat if you ever have 15 mins worth of Qs to ask at once =] https://calendly.com/beckystern/
