What is a good student research experiment?

What is a good experiment i can perform for a school assignment, it can be on anything except plants, it also needs to be fairly cheap

I personally like electronics (15 yrs). Electrolysis is always cool, splitting water into individual components and setting them on fire results in a nice POP!

ooh, i like the sound of that, how woud i go about doing that, and what would i need?
I found a great PDF about electrolysis. Be careful about the "Oxygen" side if you decide to do this with table salt. NaCl (table salt) becomes chlorine gas where the Oxygen is supposed to form.

What age are you, and what sort of things does your teacher like?

Well i'm 16, but im not sure what my teacher would like
Well, what sort of stuff does he/she show you in class that they consider fun or cool? What stuff do they talk about? "A good experiment" is kind of vague, so you need some way of narrowing it down, whilst giving you a chance of keeping your teacher's interest.
