What is "Private RSS"?

I see it and want to know what it does. Did I miss something?

A private RSS is meant to be for you, so you can put it in your RSS reader, but the url is meant to be non-guessable (hence the private part).

So instead of having to login to instructables to check your orange board etc, you can put the feed into your favourite reader (eg google reader) or as a smart bookmark on firefox for example.
