What's a good, free program to create 3D objects in?

I need one that will export .3ds, .md2, .md3, .mdl, or .map files.

if you join autodesk as a student (by student it means highschool student but i just lied) it will let you download the software for free. the reason for this is because they think that if u like it u will chose something like that as your job

Blender is a great program for .3ds. Not only does it export and costs nothing, you can even make animations and games. Look at examples on youtube.

The formats are proprietary; but its capable of running addons, and some of those addons can export 'real' 3d files that manufacturing software can handle.
