When I make a miniature K'nex gun, why does it only shoot one foot?

When I try testing a small gun,  the gun doesn't shoot very far. It works on big guns, why not small ones?

It mostly depends on your design. If you are basically scaling down the size of your weapon, it will obviously shoot shorter because the pin length is smaller. However if you are testing 2 different weapons of different sizes you have other factors to consider, like trigger position and ammo placement.

What's the pin length of your weapons? Longer pin = more distance to accelerate/stretch the band/s.
