Pretty much what everyone else said, but try some of your non geeky friends, most people seem to keep their old computers and shove them in a closet somewhere, which is perfect for scavengers like us...lol
I got a pretty useful laptop from a friend, just because he didnt ever use it and he knows im a geek

i had an old 1 couple of months a go for a land fill it had a faulty lead on the thing   "sub cable i think" tryed to fit a new pin in the thing but must have been a more major fault with the thing  a relay in side stoped it from powering on so back to the tip it went
