Which type of decaffeinated green tea tastes the best?

I like green tea, but am really caffeine-sensitive (one cup of green tea with 15-20 mg of caffeine will easily give me 3-4 hours of awareness past my normal bedtime). I have no plans to decrease my sensitivity, but instead would like to find a brand or type of decaffeinated green tea that retains as much of the flavor as possible. Do you have suggestions? Salada "naturally decaffeinated" gea tea is ok, but there's got to be better.

when we were in taiwan, the nice tea lady told us that you can get rid of most of the caffeine by adding hot water to your tea leaves, dumping that out, and then brewing normally.

Yes, if you brew the tea for 15-30 seconds in one cup, then brew the same tea in a new cup, the majority caffeine will be in the first cup, so that means that you can make any green tea decaf. Although all decaf tea will have some caffeine in it because all tea is made from the Camellia sinensis plant and this plant naturally contains caffeine. Another option is to have white tea which is also amazing, but it has less caffeine than green or black tea. Also always remember to put used tea bags into a compost pile.

I have begun drinking iced green tea with lemon on a daily basis this summer because of the many health benefits it offers. Three years ago, I weaned myself from all caffeinated beverages. (I was drinking close to a pot of coffee a day, which was scary). I wanted the benefits of green tea, but like you, did not want the caffeine. I had a difficult time finding decaffeinated green tea. So, I researched on the internet and found that if the tea is "cold brewed" the caffeine does not leach out into the tea. Since it is summer where I live, and I prefer cold tea at this point in time, this works for me. Not sure what I will do in a few months when I desire warm tea. I place a pitcher of cold water with tea bags in the refrigerator for a minimum of 6 hours (can leave longer if you desire a stronger tea). I usually make a pitcher before bed, leave it overnight, and remove the teabags in the morning (the strength of the tea is not too strong). I used about 6 tea bags to make a 3 quart pitcher of iced tea. This works for iced tea, but will obviously not work if you are wanting to make hot tea. It would be more work, but I guess you could use the same method, and then heat up cup at a time on the stove or in the microwave. I hope this helps.

Ive never tried there decaff as im a young sir and love me some caffine but i have tried some others and liked all of them (also their fairly cheap, especially since my parents pay for them :D)
This may sound wierd but it's the only decaff green tea I could find. Try "Sleepy Time" green tea it actually tastes good.

I have nothing to do with the company, but where I work, they use a Flavia coffee n tea machine for lunchroom drinks, and they don't charge for them. Even though I am more of a coffee drinker than tea, I am not as fond of their coffees as their teas. They have a wide range too, and it takes less then 2 minutes, even when set to stronger brew. They have flavors ranging from Darjeeling Tea to Malawi Garden Tea and even a Decaf English Breakfast Tea. I like a lot of their more fruit infused ones like White Tea and Orange, African Red Bush, Raspberry Spark, Blueberry Balance, and Lemon Calm.

The type decaffeination process used can effect the flavor, I think CO2 decaffeination is the best in retaining the flavor and beneficial qualities of the tea. (They sometimes tell you which process they use on the packaging.) I've only tried Tetley decaf green tea, which was okay, but I do prefer my green tea flavored so I just don't drink any after about 4pm (or I can't sleep). If you want to drink non-decaf green tea, I heard that the higher grade green teas (loose leaf) are better, although they contain more caffeine, they also contain more theanine which neutralizes the caffeine (apparently). Also if you drink the second infusion (give the first infusion to someone with more caffeine tolerance) the second will have less caffeine. This is similar to what clunymph said.

3-4 hours of awareness you say? Do you listen to AIDs benefit concerts and attend Al Gore pro-environment seminars while you fall asleep? Just kidding, and I don't mean to jest at your condition. I don't personally drink green tea, but a thorough Google search dug up that people enjoy Tazo Zen Green Tea and Herbal Fusion and Republic of Tea's decaf Wild Berry Plum tea. Perhaps you should try these. Good luck, and I hope you solve this problem (as much as I liked Inconvinient truth, Al must get repetitive after a while.) ;D!

Ha! Well, I wasn't sure how you would take it. I know quite a few sticks-in-the-mud who would react as if I was making a joke in horrible taste at their expense, even if it was just and allergy, sensitivity, or intolerance. I certainly wouldn't think you to be a stick-in-the-mud, but better safe than sorry. my apologies if that was awkward... I agree the word "condition" is thrown around so much these days, you could probably get a good lawyer, knock over a liquor store, and blame caffeinated green tea.
