Why are power cables from mixture of aluminium and iron,not copper any more?

please give me the right answer thats for my assigment

you could do your own research as well.


Transmission cables here in the UK have been aluminium and a steel core for a long time - in fact all the time - Lower cost - Lower resistance - lower weight and greater tensile strength all are factors

.  Same here in the US. We've been using ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) for decades because it's cheaper than Cu, doesn't stretch as much, &c.
