Why two coats of mold release?

For the second half, you brushed on the mold release and then sprayed more mold release. You were also careful to avoid brushing over the clay.

Why avoid the clay?

Why put mold release on twice?

Hi Alex,

The two applications of mold release with a light brushing of the first coat in between are that particular release's instructions. It just ensures that every little bit of the surface gets coated.

I didn't do the brushing and second coat on the first half of the mold because silicone only sticks to itself, so I wasn't too worried about being overly cautious.

I did follow the complete instructions before casting the second half of the mold, because as silicone sticks to silicone, I wanted to be extra sure that all surfaces were thoroughly coated.

As for why I didn't brush the clay, silicone won't stick to clay and I didn't want to risk the brush bristles catching any of the delicate clay bits and pulling them off.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Best,
Paige
