Will a Terabyte make a laptop bigger?

I'm looking into buying an hp envy 15z-j100 notebook pc from hp. It comes regularly with 6gb ram and 750 gb hard drive. It has customizeable options and if I upgrade to 8 gb ram and a terabyte harddrive then will it make the laptop thicker and will it affect the shape of the laptop or will you just have more stuff crammed in that little space? Also any other recommendations for laptops that are $600 or under (USD)?

No, it won't change the size of the laptop

Don't bother with a mechanical drive and get instead an SSD.

Uses less power, has no moving parts, is much faster and can cut the boot time by half or more. Is not bothered by physical impact and most are water resistant.

a 240 gig ssd can now be had for a little over 100 on sale.

I figured he wanted the capacity. What would 1Tb run you, as an SSD ?

yes I could deal with a longer boot time and if I drop a laptop in water then what would I do with a waterproof hard drive. I also dont really want to spend $.50 per gigabyte.

Laptops use specific size hard drives, a 750 gb is physically the same size as the 1 Tb. I wouldn't recommend getting one that big because of a risk of hard drive failure your loosing 1 T of data.
They get bumped around, tossed into bags and what not.

is a terabyte hard drive more likely to fail. I would think that it would b the same as a 750 gb.

It won't make that much difference, but he's right, the more data you have in one place, the more there is to lose, and if you don't want to lose it, to back-up.
