Wire thickness?

I want to make a necklace chain, but the wire you use is so pliable and will bend if pulled on. I am wondering if you know a wire that would be better to use?

If you've made it this far in the class, you know now that metals like silver and copper become softer after you heat them (annealing). Bending or striking the metal with a hammer work-hardens it, which is how chains are made sturdy from delicate wire. So you can use the silver plated copper wire from the earrings project to experiment, and thwack it with your rawhide hammer to help harden each loop up as you go, or give the wire a texture with your chasing hammer. But making chain is a bit too complicated for the scope of this class, so here are some tutorials:
