www.lynxmotion.com/Category.aspx has some 6 legged walkers. i remember there being an 8 legged one, but can't seem to find it. you might be able to do it off the servo erector set
I heard some where where they made robotic "cockroaches" that worked off a bi-axial principal. while two legs on one side would go down, the middle leg on the other side would be down as well while the rest were up. Each set of three legs would then rotate in a forward motion kind of like a motor with a leg sticking off in one direction from the shaft, so that it will go forward every time the leg kicks off from the ground.
Sound familiar?
you might be able to modify the idea so that there are 8 legs, and the 2 outer legs on one side, and the 2 inner ones on the other side move at the same time. not a true octapod, but it might work.
or if you do legs 1,3 on one side and 2,4 on the other to do the same.
Found the thing I was looking for, and thought it so interesting that I ought to make a forum topic.
Sound familiar?
Have you thought out the problem of how to get 4 working yet? What materials do you want to use and what motor/gear setup are you thinking about?
Sound familiar?
It's made out of laminated card, a motor, a battery and a reciever.
