They used wax and cardboard in many of the OLDER capacitors a few decades ago, but they had the problem of being somewhat low in capacitance, and that the capacitance fluctuated with humidity and barometric pressure changes.

What are you using as your container and divider materials? You're not looking to get a whole lot of capacitance through this method, but it may work. It all depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

Yeah, it should work. Capacitance is a function of surface area, and distance between the plates.

It would work as a capacitor if you built it right. But as ACProdigy observes the capacitance would be rather low.
