can I power up o flyback transformer without a driver?

You could send brief pulses of current to the primary winding by briefly touching its leads to a car battery, or other current source, whatever is handy. I don't know if that counts as "without a driver" or not.

you could use an electronic ballast or fluorescent circuit (both from lighting). They are both drivers tho, saves time & $$$$ plus the components are less likely to die constantly.
Not really. How would you do it ?
