can I use a satellite dish (that does not have service), as a regular antenna to pick up local channels ?

previous owners left a satellite dish on the roof of the house - is there a way to use that dish, without acquiring service to it, as a regular antennae to pick up local channels only?  thanks for any help

Probably not very effectively or efficiently. But there are a hundred Instructables about what else you could do with it!

It isn't really designed for the right frequencies, and its directionality means you probably could only use it to pick up from the one tower it was pointed directly at in any case. I think you'll do better with a standard antenna.
