can i get a passport if i have a felony?

I am wanting to apply for a passport, can i get one if Ive been convicted of a felony?

In the U.S., as long as you are not on parole, have legal action pending and you don't have you don't have outstanding child support payments of more than $5000,  you can get a passport.  The real question is whether or not you can get a Visa. Many countries are very restrictive when it comes to allowing former felons into their country.

At a quick glance, I don't see anything saying you can't apply.

Of course, that doesn't guarantee that any other country will let you enter -- only that you can leave the US and come back in. Visas are the stage at which your record is likely to become a problem.
I had a lot of searching through that site - found nothing also...

Depends on your country...

A criminal record generally means no out of country travel for a period of x years or if you have received a pardon.

I just skimmed the passport state website and they don't mention much about a criminal record - I would recommend calling them, or going in person.  They will tell you before you have to pay if your application will be automatically rejected. http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html
