cheap powerful electric engine?

im looking to make an electric scooter for a school project, and im on a bit of a budget. I need to know what kind of motor i can get to move a scooter with a person and electronic weighing around 150 pounds on it, while still fast enough to go around 10 mph.

Lots of folk have had success with cordless power tools. A beefy cordless drill even has a throttle already built in, and can be set up to turn your drive wheel through friction:

Ebay. To make it work at all really your going to need 150 to 250 watts. There are some RC motors out there at that level but you will need to do a lot of stepping down to get a reasonable speed and enough torque.

Best look for a motor designed for the job. You won't have a lot of room to work in.

There are lots of replacement motors for scooters on Ebay.
