how can I connect analog stereo outputs to my PC to rip music from my old cassettes?

I have an older compact stereo, and an extensive music collection, I listen to most of my music on my PC. I would like to "rip" my cassettes, rather than replacing them all with CD's

You'd need something like this to adapt the RCA audio outputs to a 3.5 mm input that your computer uses. Plug it into the Line-In port on the back of your computer (it's usually blue), and use recording software like Audacity to capture the audio. Be careful not to overdrive your sound card, as you could permanently damage it if the input volume is too high. Saving/editing/exporting is pretty straightforward, if you have any problems with that I'd be glad to help.
