how can I map patterns in nature using the fibonacci sequence?

I have been studying the fibonacci sequence for about a month and I want to know how to use it. I know that it goes 0,1,1,2,5,8,13 and so on...#

Vi Hart has a fascinating 3 part series on fibonacci in nature.
I've a cartoon somewhere that has two guys looking at the number on a house
"5813", "Ah", says one, "here's Fibonacci's place......"

0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13.

What do you mean, "use it"?

You can find it by counting anything in spirals - count leaves up a stem, and the leaf above your starting point will be on the series.
