how could you make a mac like light up objects on the back of a regular laptop?

It already lights up... therefore, I don't understand your question. HOWEVER, if you do want to change your logo on your PC to light up, you can do that, there's an instructable. http://www.instructables.com/id/Banana-PC---Custom-Laptop-Logo/

I assume that you mean that you want an illuminated silhouette on the back of a laptop display, like the glowing Apple logo. There's an Instructable on that.

If you want that glowing Apple logo like on the back of a mac book, you might try thinning out the plastic from the back of the case in the shape of your design or logo. Leave a very thin layer to keep the outside surface intact. Fill it back up with clear resin or a hardening epoxy. The backlight of the LCD panel should be able to light it up or you may need to add a LED. If the plastic case is too opaque or is not translucent enough to make the design glow, you may need to cut out the shape and replace it with an inlay of some kind of frosted plastic. You would then have to finish the case so that it mates perfectly on the outside so it looks like one piece of the shell. Good luck.
