how do I free the memory on the raspberry pi?

rm -rf /boot/*.elf /boot/*.bin /boot/*.img
apt-get install git
apt-get install ca-certificates
wget http://goo.gl/1BOfJ -O /usr/bin/rpi-update && sudo chmod +x /usr/bin/rpi-update
/usr/bin/rpi-update

this is the code I found so do I enter it into the LX terminal or do I enter it into the memory split option?
