how do i make an audio interface?

hello i'm fairly new to electronics but i'm a dab hand with the solderer i want to make an audio interface between my guitar and my pc. i was thinking of making a small amp having a 6.5mm socket for the input and instead of a speaker having a usb connection? is this even possible? is that why the ones on the market are so expensive? thanks for your time

Good evening , thanks to this information CB27.com BY enriching and interesting. I wanted to please ask for your help . I just need to build a audio interface with USB port or a 15-pin in two rows also called port JOGO ( game ) in which it can connect a microphone or a guitar and a piano with midi of eletrônico port. I have basic knowledge of electronics to construct the circuit board and soldering the components, which are you if you are so kind I can teach in a list along with the connection diagram or eletrônico Scheme , and if in this case some IC is required ( circuit integrated) please not very difficult sea to get as living in Colombia . Thank you very much for your help !

I'm looking to do a similar thing as the OP, building a simple audio interface for 2 stereo outputs from USB. does anyone have any experience with this?
thank you!

You want a pre-amp?
I'd suggest you search for that term in conjunction with "guitar"
Something like this:

thanks for your reply ;-D how would i connect the usb connection though?
You wouldn't use the USB - use Line-in. Unless these things you've seen do something really sophisticated that I'm not thinking of right now? L

i was thinking along these lines http://www.ikmultimedia.com/stealthplug/features/
or am i being too ambitious?
I might be wrong, but I'm sure there's plenty of software that'll work on Line-in inputs... this didn't take more than a minute to find (but I didn't look any further)
