how do i trim my pot-belly pigs' hooves by myself ? /?

my kid, Shelia Porkita, hates to even have her hooves touched and they are so long they are curling up. i can't pay a vet to do it and i will probably have no assistance from anyone. Please help!

HI, I DONT KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE BUT I LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AND I HAVE A POTBELLIED PIG WHO WAS ABUSED AND I RESCUED HER, SHE HATES EVERYONE BUT ME AND SINCE WE HAVE BEEN SLEEPING IN THE SAME ROOM AND SAME BED FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS WE HAVE BECOME VERY CLOSE, SHE IS STILL A LITTLE "IFFY" ABOUT CERTAIN THINGS, ESPECIALLY HER FEET!! I GET HER TO COME INSIDE AND GET HER IN MY AIR CONDITIONED ROOM AND THROW HER SOME BLANKETS DOWN ON THE FLOOR WHERE SHE THEN MAKES HER "NEST" ONCE SHE HAS HAD A FEW TREATS AND A ZEBRA CAKE SHE IS HAPPY AND FALLS INTO A "DEEP" SLEEP....I TURN ALL THE LIGHTS DOWN AND GET MY LANTERN OUT AND TURN IT ON LOW ALONG WITH ALL MY TOOLS ILL NEED TO WORK ON HER, THE DREMEL WILL WAKE HER UP AND SHE WILL HEAD FOR THE HILLS!!!! SO I USE A SPECIAL SET OF SHEET METAL CUTTERS FROM HOME DEPOT THAT CAN BE USED AT DIFFERENT ANGLES, THAT HELPS ALOT!! THEY ARE SHARP SO BE CAREFUL, THEY WILL TAKE A FINGER OFF! AFTER CUTTING IT DOWN TO JUST BELOW THE QUICK I FILE IT WITH SAND PAPER OR A FINGERNAIL FILE OR WHATEVER WORKS,SOMETIMES I TRIM THE NEW EDGES WITH A BOX CUTTER TO SMOOTH IT A LITTLE BIT BEFORE SANDING SO I DONT SAND FOREVER, THEN I GET THE REST OF THE NAIL ALL CLEAN AND PRETTY AND SMOOTH AND GET OUT THE COTTON BALLS AND ACETONE AND WIPE THEM ONE GOOD TIME TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE CLEAN AND THEN BREAK OUT HER FAVORITE NAIL POLISH "RED"!!!!! AND WE PAINT THEM AND LET IT DRY AND THEN WE PUT SOME PRETTY FLOWER DESIGNS ON THEM AND PUT A CLEAR COAT AND AFTER THAT DRIES I PUT BABY OIL OR LOTION ALL OVER HER FEET AND HER BODY AND WE ARE GOOD TO GO, THIS GENERALLY TAKES "ME" 4 OR MORE HOURS, DEPENDING ON HOW QUICKLY I WANT TO GO TO BED, IF I HAVE NOTHING TO DO THE NEXT DAY I WILL WORK ON IT SLOWLY TO MAKE SURE ITS RIGHT AND SHE IS OK, OTHERWISE I WILL GET THE BASIC CUTS IN AND WE ARE DONE IN LIKE 2 HOURS,MAYBE LESS.....I HAVE DONE THE TUSKS AND THE TOENAILS OF MY MALE PIG I HAD AND I HAD TO FLIP HIM TO DO HIS, HE DIDNT LIKE IT AT ALL I HATE DOING IT THAT WAY BUT ITS AN EASIER WAY TO JUST FLIP THEM AND CUT THEM AND TRIM THE TUSKS AND LET THEM GO, BUT I HAVE TO MAKE THE NAILS PERFECT....IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR EVEN IF YOU LIVE CLOSE ENOUGH, CALL ME, I DONT EVEN CHARGE ALOT TO DO IT FOR YOU, EVERYONE ELSE I KNOW CHARGES OVER 150.00 TO DO IT, THATS TOO DANG MUCH!!!! HOPE THIS HELPS....TERESA CORNFEDCNTRYGIRL@AOL.COM
Look, I don't know much about pigs, but what I CAN tell you is that most critters in the hands of inexperienced clippers benefit from the use of a grinder, not snips.

Ask the vet to teach you how to do simple grooming like that...perhaps? You may need to pay for the lesson, but it's worth doing right.
