i have a pet mate auto cat litter box and the motor isn't strong enough. how can i improve this product?

Is this the Petsafe litter box with the rotating litter tray and the conveyor that lifts the stuff and drops it into the bin?

If that's the case, then your problem isn't (just) the motor.  It's the fact that the idiots that make this box put a plastic gear in a location that is susceptible to getting litter in it, and then mated it to a metal gear on the driver motor.  Basically what happens is that litter gets pulverzed and packed into the teerh of the plastic gear, and then the metal gear winds up stripping out the plastic teeth of the gear.

Mine is stripped out.  I'm going to wind up making a replacement gear out of - probably - JB weld to start with, until I get a milling machine set up.

hey did you ever solve this problem? i'd love to repair mine, that has had the same issue and has been awaiting repair fro the last few years

Well, sort of. I mean, yes, I solved it, but it's never been more than a temporary fix.

I do have, now, a CNC router, and I've made replacement gears out of UHMW and nylon, but none of them have ever lasted. The fine teeth on the bull gear just kept wearing out. I didn't have any way--until now--to hob out gears from metal (I only got a rotary indexer last week) but I've long since just replaced the box entirely. It was too much of a pain in the ass to keep cutting replacement parts.

These days, though? If I had to do it again, I'd actually give the first reduction set a pass, and just replace both the input pinion and first reduction gear with a timing belt. The second reduction pinion / ring gear, they're fine as is--they're both plastic, and coarse enough to be survivable--but something like an MXL timing belt would fit in there quite nicely and be far, far more tolerant of grit and such, as well.

I still have that box sitting in my garage. If the current thing (and no, I don't remember what model it is) ever fails, I'll probably go back to the timing belt idea on the rotary / conveyor box.

it is an automatic cat litter box
but what the motor does ?

i turns the pan and litter scoop
is it powered on ac or batteries ? did sand or cats fur or whatever get into the motor or mechanics ? is it designed for a specific substance to be filled with do you use heavier substance ?

ac, no, cat litter
do you overfill it ? is it powered thru power block ? try swapping the existing one with one that has same output volts has same places of + - in the output plug has higher mA rating

no, it got stuck on the plastic edge and the motor whirred and whirred without the scoop moving until it stopped working altogether don't understand power block, is this something in the motor?
power block = the big heavy transformer plugs (if its on like that)

anyway try to open and clean everything in there

run it empty and see if it works
