i need a media encoder...?

it needs to be able to encode midi files to mp3 and ogg vorbis and would be extremely nice if it supported batches of files instead of 1 by 1 by 1...and it needs to be freeware....no stupid trials

Install winamp Check the 'output' plugin - and change it from directsound to 'mp3 output encoder' You can find it in the settings (ctrl K) 'Configure' the output plugin with the settings you wish - bitrate, stereo, save location, etc. Then load a playlist, and hit play. They'll play very fast, and no sound will come out. That's because they are encoding instead of playing.

you might need to hit the 'get extra plugins' - I know it installed with my recent installation of winamp 5.x (not 5.x lite) - hit the 'get extra plugins' button - or search the winamp site. They have plugins to do ...everything. I think theres a plugin that milks cows in there.

If you've got an audio capture device on your machine you should be able to capture a MIDI track while it's playing, but MIDI needs a player, so I doubt you can convert in batches. L
