ipod jack broken need advice to fixing it

sadly my ipod touch 3 generations headphone jack broke only allowing me to hear in one ear my question is if there is any way to fix this problem help with this subject is much appreciated thank you

First check to make sure it is not the headphones themselves.  Also try plugging and unplugging the headphone connector a few times, in case the open connection is just due to dirt, or something simple like that.

If there truly is something wrong with the jack, a broken connection on the inside, then your beloved iPod will require surgery.  This should be a simple procedure, if you know what you're doing.

The first step is taking the case apart.  Thankfully there are a whole bunch of YouTube videos that show how to do this, here:

After you get the case open it should be a simple matter to find the broken connection, and to resolder it, or to solder in a new jack, or a cludgy substitution like wires leading to an external jack, or whatever.
