my ipod 5th gen video will not produce sound from dock or earphone jack?

my ipod 5th gen video. it connects to computer. it loads music its also been restored a few times successfully but i get no sound from the dock or the earphone jack. it shows music playing and the menu comes up fine.. appreciate the help?

Sounds like a hardware problem, inside the iPod.  A single chip handles the line-out (through the dock) and headphone out (through the headphone port).  So if both are gone, it's likely the chip rather than the connectors.

Have you checked equalizer settings and stuff so see if anything funky is going on there?

A burst of sound, eh?  Have you tried a different pair of headphones?  Try turning off all the equalizer settings and sound check stuff.  Then, try your headphones at different volume levels.

Assuming you've checked volume levels, checked the manual to see if there's a mute feature, and checked that the track you're playing really does have audio... Sounds like a hardware failure.

If there's an Apple store near you, you could try asking one of their support staff to help you check it out.
