my own contest?

I've had the notion of hosting my own contest for a while. I've seen people do it in the form of an instructable. Do I need some sort of approval first? Thank you?

Nope, just go for it. A lot of people offer pro memberships/patches/whatever as prizes for their contests. Just make a forum posting announcing the rules and such!
