seeking pleated pillow pattern?

I really like the look of this vintage pleated velvet pillow. Does anyone have a pattern or instructions on how to make one like it? thanks!

The technique around the edges is "American smocking". it's actually really easy to do, especially if you have polar graphpaper. you can find a pdf of polar graphpaper here : http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/polar/

There is a book called "the art of manipulating fabric"http://www.amazon.com/Art-Manipulating-Fabric-Colette-Wolff/dp/0801984963/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253888874&sr=1-1 that covers the technique extensively. It's also just a really cool book if you are interested in fine details of fabric/sewing.

basically the technique is to graph out a series of dots that will mark where to sew. Then you sew between the dots and only draw particular segments tight, this causes the fabric to buckle in predictable ways and you can create patterning. It'll look complex but once you get started it's a really fast easy technique. have fun!

I would like to find a round pillow pattern that is pleated like the center of this one, but without the smocking. Any help would be appreciated.
your best bet would be to experiment with paper. You need to start with a truncated paper cone, kind of like a lamp shade. The larger diameter should be the same size as the outside edge of your pillow. And the small end should be somewhat bigger then the button that will be attached in the middle. (the "somewhat" is where experimentation will come in) the distance between the two ends of the cone should be the radious of the pillow. The smaller end will get pleated (folded) up until it is the right size for the middle of the pillow.

Make one out of paper until your are happy with it, then make one out of muslin, THEN make one out of expensive velvet.

The technique that makes those pretty pleats is called "smocking". Try googling that.
