what is the easiest way to make a refrigerator fit into a space that it is barely too big for?

We took the old refrigerator out and tried to put a refrigerator in that we had in our old house but it is about 1/2 inch to wide. What would be the easiest way to make it fit. The kitchen counter is causing the problem and there is plenty of room on the top.

WoW!! Intelligent!
if it is formica you can use an iron to soften the glue holding it on the side part of the counter and then using a very fine bladed saw cut the edge and then using contact cement reatach the formica you initiall removed. Check the this old house web site I thin they may have something on this there- or a web site on do it yourself formica counters. I first saw this on this old house.

the counter top is not fancy at all and I would not be opposed to cutting it but my wife is. It looks like it's formica on top of wood.

. It depends on how "fancy" the counter top is. Eg, modifying a tile top is not really a project for first-time carpenters (but not impossible). How about some more details?
