The Pier 9 Workshop is excited to share our full roster of Machine Training Curriculum on Instructables. Each class was developed over 5 years of hands-on collaboration with industry experts. We hope the knowledge we've gathered here will help any level of user be successful in a workshop.

This class goes over the safe operation of the HAAS Vertical Mill Model: VF-2SS in the Pier 9 Workshop. The Haas Mill is an advanced CNC manufacturing tool capable of cutting metal with high precision.

This basic operations class is part of the CNC Learning Path at Pier 9, and is suitable for students with CNC experience. Each class is a building block to the next. Experience with the manual mill and CNC equipment such as the Shopbot router is recommended. A free PDF download of this class is available at the end of the last lesson.

The controller and display panel help you program the HAAS as well as control it during the machine's operation.

Lesson 3: Starting Up the HAAS Mill

In this lesson, you'll learn how to energize the machine. Be sure to do this before installing your material in the workbed.

Lesson 4: Tools, Tool Holders, and Offsets

Learn how to properly install tools and set tool offsets for safe successful machining.

Lesson 5: Work Coordinate System

Understanding the Work Coordinate System is critical to calibrating your part and dimensions correctly.

Lesson 6: Programming, Cutting, and Cleanup

This lesson goes over how to upload your part files to the machine, as well as how to run your program to complete your cut.

Lesson 7: Operating the HAAS CNC Mill

Recap for how to run the machine and a few more tips and tricks to get you the best results on the mill. This lesson also includes a free PDF download of this class to use in your shop.
