5 watt LED

hello, forgive me if this is not the right blog to post i was just not sure where to ask.

i have a 5w led that came off a flash light i would like to either do my own flash light or install it in my house as a light, how can i do that and what do i need to power it, the only thing i know about the flash light is that is a 5 watt. also i dont know much about leds so if you guys can help that will be really cool. thanks

Do you still have, or know anything about, the original flashlight this came from? That would tell you what voltage the LED needs to operate, from which math :-) will get you the current (P = VI).

Without the flashlight, you're going to have to try to find a part number stamped on the LED itself. There are 5W LEDs available for a variety of voltages, from 4V all the way up to 240V.
