It doesn't do anything as far as the ads are concerned. I don't think that 'ibles gets money based upon how many people see the background, because there's probably no way to check if the background loaded. The ads are what matters. But I could be wrong.

Hm, well the only thing is some of the Norton images would probably be supplanted if you used my styles - it would definitely be good to know whether this is a package-deal thing (in which case I have no qualms about supplying the style to cover it) or if it's impression based, in which case I don't want people using them to cover over the yellow. It'd be good to get some official confirmation on whether you're right - but then it wouldn't make very good business sense to tell us, so it'd be a bit unfair to ask...

YES, mac users unite! I recently got myself a nice new iMac, and i'm loving it. Did apple do you a special deal? Han works at a University, so i get student discount (about £200 odd).

Deals? Discounts? Money?! Uh....yeah!....uh....Apple!....I have an ipod!....uh....Macs rule!!.....yeah.....(Can I get my money now?)

Go to the Mac store and try to track down the student discount page, and see if your school participates.

Eric mentioned this on Adrian's color-changing thread. I'm a bit disappointed that the Staff left the masthead white, rather than adopting Adrian's very own "green theme" masthead CSS. But yeah, I think you're right that Apple is sponsoring I'ble's "Green" category for a while, to promote their new MacBooks.

We offered green; they preferred white.

For apple to want to advertise on Ibles like this is a great move forwards. Biggest specific advertiser to date? And, the advert is some what relevant, the materials used by apple, really do set some new standards in computer manufacture.

Its very easy to spot the eject options. The said drag and drop for an mp3 player, normally only applies to low end small sized mp3 players. As i said, ALL the good quality big brand mp3 players, use their own programs, sony, zune, creative, to name a few. Part of the reason the iPod is popular, is how usefull itunes is. Also, iTunes is an extension of a normal window. In that, you can drag and drop files into it as if it was part of the OS, or you can easily delete, change view, you can drag and drop to the iPod itself, or set the iPod to auto update.

this is a huge downside of ipod and the other players which act like that when i buy a device i want it to be plug and play. no plug and go install software (no matter how easy it is to install) the fact you need itunes to sync it drops the ipod to below the untitled chinese players - which accept and are able to play any mp3 you drag to them using any file manager in any operating system without need to install extra stuff. this includes the computer at friends home or in school library or the dvd player etc. the main task of ipod is portable media player and not usb dongle for itunes several users may think that itunes is t3h best. to me it is useless cause i allready have the player and file manager of my choice (ones that dont bother to enforce stupid drm upon me by the way). but it is required. the untitled chinese product that costs 1/4 the price and has similar capabilities does work with my software of choice. and they are not that flimsy - mine is alive and performs well despite that it goes with me everywhere thru everything like if it was pikachu apple could make the ipod usable as much as possible without requiring itunes. this would not reduce the value of ipod or itunes in any way - if you like itunes you can still install it i dont know about creative today but we had a muvo 2 fm somewhere and it used to sync perfectly on my linux box with just a file manager

It would seem to me, alot of your problems and annoyances come from using a less standard OS, being linux, i had this through before, and you have just confirmed it. To me on the other hand, i love having itunes to orginise my music, just like i have iphoto to orginise my pictures, a sepcific program designed to help me orginise the said media in the most efficient and simple way. I see your point about the cheap players, but, i also like to be able to watch HD video, or browse the internet, or check my emails, like my iPod allows me to do. I guess, really, the iPod touch is no longer a mp3 player, but more like a pocket sized netbook.

imagine you want to buy a swiss knife. you have a choice of 2 products. one is smooth and shiny and has dc in socket and comes with power adapter. the other is stamped of steel and has sharp and not very accurate edges and comes without anything else the descriptions on them say : knife (needs plug in to ac) + flashlight (needs plug in to ac) + screwdriver + lighter (needs plug in to ac) + cork opener + wire cutters + file + saw knife + screwdriver + lighter + saw i would go with the secon one. why ? i think its obvious. i do have ac at home and at friends homes but i want it to be able to work everywhere i am a linux user. it would take me exactly a minute to install gtkpod and sync an ipod my point is another. everything i said would hold if i used windows. my point is about ability to utilize the abilities of my devices to the max where ever i am and whatever computers are around me i think that stuff should be built mainly for the widest functionality possible under different circumstances. not for being perfect in ideal conditions. not for being visually pleasing. stuff that you can take on you everywhere and get the most out of it - even if its most is not very high this relates also to the fire extinguisher battle we had about the use of flash for insts slideshows

You see, i understand you thinking, but, i want a device that excels at what it does, i want it to always work, just how i want it. It needs to be well built, and reliable, in my line of work, i can not afford to have something not work. If im booking an appointment with a client, my iPod needs to work perfectly, and then auto sync itself with my Mac, and iCal. My photos need to auto sync with my iPod so that i have my latest Portfolio at hand. We both have different needs, which is exactly why i understand the need for different OS's. But, having said that, there is alot about Mac OS X, that many people do not know exists, and many peoples views are 'tainted' by rumours, and old problems, like the 'right click' argument, that so many a noob brings up. For me, things have to work, thats why i use Macs, and why i use everything else i use.

everyone wants stuff to work you speak about a known set of stuff which works well together (and note that most of it is by apple) i speak about ability to work as much as possible in a wide variety of circumstances - moving stuff around between many computers which run anything between linux or windows 98 - vista in various levels of good maintenance or broken-ness. when i need to do anything like copy a folder of mp3s from friend's player to mine using a school library computer (windows with restricted user account) and rush with it to the stage arts to plug the amp to its headphones socket (with twisted wires skills cause plug does not fit). or just move presentations and docs between computers with different versions of ms / open office about the noob part - i know myself what you are speaking about. i am one of them when it comes to mac. but in windows and linux everything seems to go well. i think that any os goes well if you know how to handle it. problem is to learn how

Every thing you just described works just the same in mac is x. Dragging files accross etc. Opening files including word files actually works better, the built in quicklook allows me to view word, excel, all the common picture movie and music files. Just by hitting the space bar when the file is highlighted. What I am speaking about is that mac does all those things, but better. Apple really strive to make everything work across all OS's to the point that you can save items in a specifically compatible format. The fact that I am posting this comment from my iPod touch shows how you can't compare it to a cheap mp3 player.
