Hello all.... I've been working on this (hobby status) on and off over the last fifteen years or so.... a mechanism that immediately begins to rotate in either direction with an imbalancing displacement of as little as one degree. With repeated periodic displacements of as little as five to seven degrees its rate of rotation rapidly approaches about a 100 to a 150 rotations per minute over the course of just eight to ten repetitions, all while overcoming only negligible frictional resistance from the main axel (equipped with bearings). It may have some applications for extracting rotational motion more efficiently from wind and wave and maybe a couple of other things too.... or it may just be a work of art.

Thanks! I just love doing this kind of stuff. The best part of exploratory research is there's no need for any but the most general kind of goal.... the investigation is the really fun part!

I think I'm headed in that direction. This has all been done over the years "freehand" with no measurements or plans. Though it's a relatively simple mechanism there's actually still a lot for me to do as far as explaining exactly what's happenning and why using an analog target system style of analysis to completely describe it. It's not complete yet but it'll probably lead to some form of blueprints being produced (the scale diagrams will be enough for some).

That's a new one. Over the years people seeing it for the first time have gotten all sorts of impressions. Some of my favorites.... a Russion dancer (you know, when they squat with their arms folded and kick their legs out from side to side), part of a UFO, and there was even policeman that stopped me once because he thought it might be some kind of "firing mechanism" for a gatling gun or something!

I'm not sure yet.... I think when it comes to applications it'll help to finish the analysis first. I still need to figure out what level of output force is resulting from what level of input force. I'm not there quite yet but I have a procedure (using simplified vectors) for determining that when the time comes.

Once I complete the analysis I'll know more and will be able to begin speculating more confidently about any possible applications.
