B&D Rotary Tool

I've really wanted a dremel lately...but they're so darn expensive! I saw this Black and Decker one that looks pretty good for a decent price. (Plus, I have a $25 gift certificate) What do you all think? Target's amazon page is selling one for 29.99 + 4.99 shipping

I've never used a B&D rotary tool, but I trust the brand from many years' experience throughout the various builders in the family. (I had a real problem spending my Amazon.com voucher - they wouldn't post most of the stuff I tried to the UK, or added huge postage and taxes on taxes - a $15 memory card would have cost me $68 by the time they added tax, postage and tax on the postage.)

That's odd...when I thought I was getting a didgeridoo, I had already checked out, and everything was normal but they subtracted $25 from the total.

Looks like a good deal. And if you upgrade later, you can always use this to make a CNC mill.

Well with the $25 it's hard to beat. For about $15 I got a similar B&D ( only about 3 bits ) but only single speed, at a Menard's. I prefer the single speed because it lets me use an external foot speed control. But since you got the coupon. Compared to say proxxon it is not as well constructed but about as well as a Dremel is nowadays. Plus it's 2A. The only other <$150 tool with that much power is the Dremel XPR. Though of course companies like Wecheer and Foredom make more powerful if you are willing to spend a lot.

. If you don't need a flex, it looks like a good deal to me. It'll be hard to go wrong wtih either a Dremel or a B&D. . If you decide you need one of the more expensive ones later, you haven't lost too much. It'll make a great backup unit.

I got mine from menards (think cheap home depot) for $5. It only had 1 bit and was tool shop brand, but it outlasted my dad's ryobi! Too bad they only have menards in the midwest (based in WI)- I just moved to New Mexico :( But on the other hand you do have that gift card.
