Bridge Launching Lego Robot

This bridge launching robot by Flickr user Mahjqa is fantastic!

The curled up bridge on its back is extended out up to 48cm (19 inches) over a gap before the robot  disengages from it so it may drive across. On the other side it can turn around and pick it back up!

The bridge layer alone is a feat of engineering.  Building it out of Legos, pure genius.  You know the concept well enough to turn it into a working product.  The Thunderbirds theme beats out actual military cadance.

This is a total, total... a word is yet to be invented to describe how totally whatever-it-is this is, but it is one. And a total, total one at that.

Those are verbs, like I'm using "total". But I'm paraphrasing a TV comedy...

Dang, this is awesome. I'm still hoping that's it's just a 1/12 scale model for something yet to come.

So Epic, I LOVE LEGO!

It seems that the LEGO company should be capitalizing on the creativity of its clientele...the only official channel on YouTube is LEGOClubTV, which seems to basically be a collection of cheesy stop-motion videos and "if you have a lot of bricks you can make things that are large." It would be nice to see them promoting things like this...not a huge number of pieces, just very clever use of the mechanics available.

This comment appears to come slightly close to conveying the intended idea. I think I'll leave it there.

the tecnical design of this "robot " amazes me , but I don't think it can be considered a robot because it is remote controled.
gmjhowe says: May 17, 2010. 3:20 AM
Very cool, I saw a full sized one of those in a museum once.

Cool working model of an AVLB.  Nice use of the Thunderbirds theme.
