I have some problems as well (that might be related?):

When I embed with the "old" code, a " still" appears in the screen (I see the YouTube frame, but the video doesn't start).
When I embed with the new code, the following happens:
1. it embeds in the "editor" mode of the I'ble. I can play it without any problem.
2. When I save the I'ble and go to "full view", the entire Youtube frame has disapeared.

OSX 10.5.8
Safari 5.0.3

Any thoughts?

This is what I found in addition:

When I embed a Youtube video in a new (unpublished) Instructable, everything goes well (using the old code).

Stangely enough I can't seem to embed it in a published Instructable:

Beats Me...
If I take a different computer (Vista) and view the above mentioned I'ble...
The "still" turns out to be a working embedded Youtube video (as it should be)...

Now you might think I'm "on" something, but honoustly I'm not!
The problem with playing YouTube videos is different, and may be related to Flash on MacOSX. I also have a MacBook running Leopard (10.5.8).

Both Safari and FF show the behaviour you describe -- the YouTube picture shows up, but when you try to play you get a "An error occurred. Try again later." If you click on the little icon in the lower right corner, you can go directly to YouTube's site and playing works just fine!

Note, by the way, that this behaviour is not specific to Instructables. I see it on MAKE, on the Science Forums, and on other Web sites where videos are shown via YouTube's embed code.
Thanks! (but for now there isn't really a solution I guess?).
Apparently not. It isn't an Instructables issue, so there really isn't much the Staff here can do about it. I haven't checked if there's a Flash update out there or not....

With thanks to user M4industries: I guess that you're trying to embed a video from YouTube. They are providing embed codes which are not compatible with I'bles back end scripts.

After clicking on the Embed button, mark the tickbox that says "Use old embed codes" and paste that longer string instead (it begins with "<object ...").

More details, please. Which site did you upload your original video to (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)? What browser and OS are you using? Can you provide the URL of the video on its current site, so we can see what the embed-code looks like?
