Cheap accelerometer?

Hello all,

I'm building a textile interface using LilyPad Arduino and accelerometers to catch the movement and acceleration of points on this interface.

As I intend to use a relatively high number of accelerometers (5), I've been wandering if there is any DIY accelerometer, or any cheap solution to it (as I'm brazilian, lilypad's accelerometers have a pretty high cost) .

Thanks,

You can see my ible for ideas on working with an accelerometer https://www.instructables.com/id/Necomimi-Arduino-Cat-Ears/

our link is to the bare part which needs to be put on a breakout circuit board with some other components.  I even had difficulty with the breakout board unless you are equipped or skilled enough to do that tiny surface mount soldering.  Maybe you can sense your inputs with other cheaper tilt switches or prototype to see where you need the advanced input.  Sparkfun.com has a range of accelerometer products and a guide there. Good luck.

Hi! Thanks a lot for your answer! [=

Well, that's what I was afraid of. I was hoping that the "tiny surface mount soldering" wasn't needed - and that I could connect things only with "cables" and so. I am not at all skilled on eletronics at this level!

I really wanted the Sparkfun products, but for me here in Brazil, a pack with 5 accelerometers would have a very very high cost!

I'll see what I can do.
Thanks!
I've seen some people from here display at Maker Faire. I remember one doing a dance suit with sensor. This may be a great resource for you if you browse through the student notes.http://itp.nyu.edu/physcomp/sensors/

Indeed, it is a great resource! I've just navigated for about 10 minutes and got some pretty nice stuff. Thanks A LOT, again!

This is a great one too (in case you need): http://www.kobakant.at/DIY/
ah, a soft-circuit kind of person, you should tweet or facebook our illustrious Lynne Bruning.  She is on a mission to network all people in the e-textile/wearable tech/soft circuit field and would be a great help in developing your ideas.

Wow! I haven't seen this answer. Thanks a lot! I'll try to contact her!
Best regards! =)

Hello all!

I've found this accelerometer:

http://www.analog.com/en/mems-sensors/inertial-sensors/adxl335/products/product.html

This anyone know if it work well with Arduino Duemilanove and LilyPad Arduino?

Thanks,
It'll work - all you have to do is read the analogue voltages with your arduino
