Clean up the pacific garbage dump.

Here is the worlds largest trash dump, in the middle of the pacific, it is twice the size of texas. (a little less than Alaska for people who don't know how big texas is) and it needs to be cleaned up. me and a friend have tried to find some way to do it but were just high school students in north virginia. We are going to need your help to clean it up, so please help through any means possible. Even something such as recycling, reusing, or just trying to get others to do something will help greatly thanks.

Get some big ships and crew them with people who have learned to survive on garbage-dumps.
>Better employ some of the world's poor
>"Re-purpose" military / whaling vessels
>Recycle the floating materials
>Clean the thing up

-See if you can get interest from GreenPeace or Friends of the Earth etc.

I don't know where you got that first photo, but it's not of the "Patch". Nobody takes to the far pelagic in a broken row-boat with a home-made oar. It looks like a Latin-American garbage-lake to me.

From Wikipedia:

The Patch is characterized by exceptionally high concentrations of pelagic plastics, chemical sludge, and other debris that have been trapped by the currents of the North Pacific Gyre. Despite its size and density, the patch is not visible from satellite photography, since it consists primarily of suspended particulates in the upper water column. Since plastics break down to ever smaller polymers, concentrations of submerged particles are not visible from space, nor do they appear as a continuous debris field. Instead, the patch is defined as an area in which the mass of plastic debris in the upper water column is significantly higher than average.
